When you are on the Scarborough route, don't just head out to Hackness, but take the time to stop and explore Forge Valley. An area that is great for walkers and cyclists, with the River Derwent slicing the area in two. It creates a fresh and vibrant place for natural flora and wildlife.
You can join many trails, including geology trails, that take you through the woods. With plenty of stopping places and information boards along the way, you can find out more about the area or take the opportunity to do some ad-hoc wildlife spotting.
In the height of summer, it can feel almost tropical as you weave between the fauna. Still, like all Woodland areas, a sensible set of footwear is advised. After you have finished your exploration and before heading to your next place, stop for a drink and a bite at fantastic eateries like East Ayton Lodge or Walkers Fish Restaurant.
