Nick's background
In 2019, Nick Sanders was awarded an MBE by King Charles for services to endurance cycling and motorbiking. He has ridden around the world eight times by motorbike, which includes a Guinness record of 19 days 4 hours for the fastest circumnavigation ever by vehicle, averaging 1002 miles a day. Nick has also ridden the length of the Americas from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego 8 times and holds the fastest time for that - 21 days.
He has never been short of adventures and has even cycled around the world twice, the second time in a Guinness record of 79 days in 1985.
Surely, that's enough for one person's lifetime?
Well, you don't know Nick! He has also cycled across the Sahara, to the source of the White Nile, the length of the Americas, across Asia and around the 4800-mile coast of Britain twice, the second time in a record 22 days, averaging 221 miles daily.
Where's Nick now?
In September, Nick packed his bike and embarked on a new adventure and a first for the cycling world...taking on the world by e-bike.
We're proud to say that he used Route YC as his training ground before taking off on this epic 19,000-mile tour of the world, which is thought to be the very first of its kind and will take an estimated seven months to complete.
Nick was one of the first to test one of our new cycle routes, starting his ride from Staithes, a quick pit stop at Ravenscar, followed by the 70+ miles down the coast towards Hull, where he boarded a ferry to Rotterdam and then onto his trek across Europe.
Nick will fly the Yorkshire coast's flag throughout every continent by wearing his specially designed Route YC cycling kit and documenting his experience in his daily blogs and insta account @nicksandersofficial.
Our partnership with Nick
We are chuffed to say that despite the tens of thousands of miles travelled and countries visited, he's fallen in love with our slice of heaven, the Yorkshire Coast.
Before Nick set off on his around-the-world trek, he trained in the area, testing our new cycle routes and giving us some great feedback on places he's loved to visit, like Staithes, on the northern point of the Whitby route.
When Nick returns from his travels, he'll be putting some films together of where he's travelled and his best bits on Route YC, on bike and motorbike, to give you even more inspiration to come and try it out for yourself.
Keep the flag for us in Yorkshire, Nick; we're rooting for you!
Have Nicks's adventures whetted your appetite for a 2024 adventure on two wheels?
We know it's a yes, so this January, we are giving you a unique opportunity to win your very own Yamaha Wabash E-Bike; join our mailing list to find out how and when you can enter.
Route YC is like going around the world in 240 miles. Nick Sanders
