Ann Bronte's Grave

168 Castle Rd, Scarborough

Anne Brontë arrived in Scarborough on 25th May 1849 and died at 29 shortly after on 28th May. Anne had been diagnosed with advanced tuberculosis some months before and wished to visit Scarborough.

She hoped the sea air might help her condition; her grave is in St Mary’s burial ground off Castle Road. Author of ‘Agnes Grey’ and ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne was often overshadowed by her famous sisters, Charlotte, author of ‘Jane Eyre’ and Emily, author of ‘Wuthering Heights.
