Families can head to Bridlington to get up close to animals at Sewerby Zoo. It’s a chance to learn about a range of animals, including monkeys, micro pigs, penguins, and parrots!
Within the grounds of Sewerby Hall, there’s plenty of space to go and explore beyond the zoo, too, with gardens surrounding the house and woodland walks in the vast 50 acres of parkland. Close by is Danes Dyke Nature Reserve, perfect for exploration and adventure, and the beach at the bottom is especially great to see at low tide with an abundance of rockpools to investigate!

Make sure you check out their downloadable guides for when you visit; here's a great one to discover where their animals are from.
Withernsea is a place where families can get wild with a walk along Spurn Point. Tunstall beach is just around the corner too, where there’s hidden beauty beneath the waves because when the tide is out, fossils of an ancient forest can be found on the seabed.
Take care on the rocks if you are on the search for limpets and crabs in the pools, and if you want something less energetic but educational, the Withernsea Fish Trail is a great way to explore the town.
On a visit to Scarborough, kids can see the wonders of wildlife underwater at the Sea Life centre too, which has over 2,500 creatures ranging from a rainforest adventure to sea life creatures. In each area, you’ll find zones such as the Otter River, Penguin Island, Seal Hospital and Shark Tanks to investigate, alongside interactive zones such as rock pools.

Hornsea is home to one of the largest freshwater lakes and is full of wildlife all year round. This is a great place to head out for an inexpensive day out with plenty of spots to settle down with a picnic on dry land or even on one of the boats you can hire.
It is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds and was featured in the BBC television programme the Seven Natural Wonders, so this is one for families who like to sit back and see nature around them.
Just off the Fliey route is a great place for the family to visit. The Animal Barn and Interactive Paddocks are designed so the children can see animals in a natural farm environment. It's made even better by the fact that you can really get up close to the animals and join in with the feeding, including newborn lambs.
