Unique Places to Stay
The Glamping Game Changer
We have found the ultimate place to lay your head after a busy day exploring, where you'll get to enjoy a 3-night unique glamping experience in a genuine Sea King helicopter at Pinewood Park. Yes, please!
The Sunset Haven
No Route YC adventure would be complete with you having a sunset moment with views out to sea, which is why we've included a 2-night luxurious stay in one of Raven Hall Country House Hotels Scandinavian-style lodges. The perfect spot to soak up the spectacular views across the bay of Ravenscar and head out on walks down to the bay.
The Quirky Hop On
And, who wouldn't want the chance to say "tickets please" as you climb aboard the quirky Daisy Decker! You'll get to explore the south of Route YC in style with a 2-night stay at Hollym Holiday Park with all the charm of being on a bus, but with a plush and stylish interior and show-stopping exterior!
Now, we know that no good road trip is complete with activities to tire you out; here are five amazing experiences for you to throw yourself into and enjoy!
Action
Ever fancied surfing? We've got you covered! Dive into a group surf lesson at Cayton bay, a stunning beach location and home to some of the best beach break waves on the East Coast with Scarborough Surf School.
Nature
Want to see the amazing seabird colonies and marine life from a different angle? Forget the hike, and climb aboard the Yorkshire Belle, where you will get to see nearly half a million seabirds on towering 400 foot chalk cliffs, with your RSPB guides.
Coastal Sculpture Collection
You can't do Route YC without ticking off that bucket list moment of visiting Yorkshire's very own lands end, Spurn Point. We've found a way to get you down the peninsula in style on a wildlife experience where you will also get to see the supersized sculpture Spurn Butterfly, created by the renowned artist Emma Stothard.
Relaxation
Every explorer knows that you need to have at least one day where you kick back and relax to recharge the batteries, which is why we've teamed up with the Wellness Spa at Alpamare, which has the latest in world-leading luxury spa design and new rituals and treatments inspired by ancient therapeutic traditions.
History
Not only will you get to see 24 miles of Yorkshire's amazing scenery, but you'll also get to climb onboard a North Yorkshire Moor Railway steam or heritage diesel train, one of the world’s greatest heritage railway experiences. Toot toot!
And don't worry, we haven't forgotten that all good explorers need to be well fed; we don't think you'll be disappointed with these beauts.
Seafood
The Magpie is known throughout Yorkshire and beyond as one of the finest fish restaurants in the area. Savour some of the finest fish dishes in Yorkshire; we'd highly recommend the Seafood Chowder!
A Mediterranean Feast
Nestled in the heart of Robin Hood's Bay, you'll find North Ings Tapas restaurant. After a walk around the Bay (and back up the hill!), you will not be disappointed with the feast of delicious tapas dishes available.
Country Fayre
Imagine a country pub, roaring open fire and the smell of ale and British fayre. Is your mouth watering yet and your legs itching to get there? That's how we feel about The Bryherstones and you'll be guaranteed to get a warm Yorkshire Welcome!
PIES!
Whether you are a meat eater, veggie or something in between, you won't be left short with an epic range of 52 homemade pies to choose from at The Piebald Inn. We'd recommend timing this unique gastronomic experience after a hike or bike around Filey.
Charcoal Seaviews
One of our favourite stop-offs that always delivers is The Ship Inn at Sewerby. A stone's throw from Sewerby Hall, this offers traditional pub grub with a twist and has a seafood menu championing the Bridlington Bay lobster and shellfish caught from the area and outdoor wood-fired ovens.
Light(er) Bites
If you're feeling full after reading the foodie experiences included, a good reprieve will be your visit to The Green Owl. Brilliant freshly cooked favourites from stonebaked pizzas, burgers, gourmet toasties and more - a perfect lunch spot whilst you explore Hornsea.
Opulent dining
Whether you do Route YC with a partner or a friend, we couldn't let you leave without a luxurious stop-off at Dunedin Country House. Enjoy a meal as hearty as you feel and enjoy a range of sumptuous small plates, hearty Sunday lunches or one of their spectacular Afternoon Teas (which we highly recommend!) in the beautiful surrounds of the Georgian dining room.
Phew! Still with us?
We told you it would be an epic competition and one that we believe captures the heart and soul of a proper Yorkshire road trip.
