Introducing the cycling ambassadors
The brand-new Route YC cycling routes, designed by book author Markus Stitz and tested by some of the UK’s leading adventure cyclists, Mark Beaumont, Jenny Graham and Nick Sanders range from 9 to 260 miles over a variety of terrain. They have been created to enable visitors of most abilities enjoy the Yorkshire coast and countryside by bike. The routes take in all the existing parts of Route YC, enabling you to explore all the best bits the region has to offer on two wheels.
Between them, our cycling ambassadors hold a number of world records for a variety of achievements. One thing they all have in common is their love for all things cycling!
Markus Stitz
Route designer, filmmaker, photographer, writer and Bikepacking Scotland founder Markus Stitz has designed and cycled all brand-new Route YC cycling itineraries. His passion for biking has seen him cycle 34,000 kilometres unsupported around the world on a single-speed mountain bike. He has also completed numerous other long-distance trails, including an alternative version of the popular North Coast 500.
Mark Beaumont
Mark Beaumont is one of the most respected ultra-endurance athletes on the planet. His adventures have taken him to over 100 countries; he holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world by bike. Based in Edinburgh he has worked with Markus on a number of joint projects like ‘Explore Your Boundaries’.
Jenny Graham
Also a record holder for circumnavigation of the world by bike, Jenny Graham smashed the existing women’s record by three weeks, finishing in 124 days, 11 hours. She completed the 18,000 mile-ride with no support crew. In addition to being a Guinness World Record holder, Jenny is an adventurer, presenter, public speaker, author and self-confessed endurance-loving, earth-hugging, fist-pumping ‘dirtbag’.

Nick Sanders
Global adventurer, Nick Sanders MBE is currently on a 19,000 mile e-bike world tour which started on Route YC. This is not Nick’s first rodeo though! He has cycled around the world twice before, across the Sahara Desert, the length of the Americas, across Asia and twice round the British coast, many of which have been record breaking trips. Nick is really excited to be an ambassador of Route YC, as he believes as incredible as travelling the world is, it’s great to explore what’s on your doorstep!
