Outdoor season has officially begun, and there are so many events happening up and down the Yorkshire Coast to get you up and out biking, running, or road-tripping. Here's just a few of the many events going on this month; you're sure to find something that strikes your fancy.
Bridlington - Race the Waves with King Street Market Food Festival - May 9-12
Adventurers, start your engines! Bridlington’s annual Race the Waves event is happening this month with a multi-day festival of music, entertainment, and of course, vintage vehicle and motorbike racing. Vehicle registration and inspection takes place on Friday the 10th, with races taking place along Bridlington South Beach the following Saturday and Sunday. As a special bonus, the popular King Street Market Food Festival is open for an extra day on Sunday the 12th, so there’s truly something for everyone here.
Scarborough - Scarborough Streets - May 4-6
This early May bank holiday weekend, the streets of Scarborough explode with life and color for the Scarborough Streets festival. Murals, art, street performances, workshops, and more await in this art festival for all ages. Come down to Scarborough Town Centre and enjoy the local colour(s)!
Whitby - Whitby Fish and Ships Festival - May 18-19
When you say Whitby, everyone thinks fish & chips, and Whitby’s proud of it - so proud that they’re throwing a whole maritime festival about it. Enjoy theater and street performances, music, demonstrations and workshops, and of course, lots and lots of delicious fish. You might even find your new favorite way of cooking it, thanks to the cookery demonstrations being given by expert chefs!
Withernsea - Hobbies and Activities Fair - May 18
The Meridian Centre at Withernsea, home to local art and performance events, is flinging its doors open to all enjoyers of art and craft on Saturday the 18th. From performance groups like dance to art groups like photography and knitting, there’s something for lovers of the creative arts of all ages. Entry is free.
